The X Factor 2011 ratings rebounded impressively last night, as a peak audience of more than 13 million tune in to watch the first elimination of the series.
13.5 million Viewers watched as the judges sent home Nu Vibe after they finished in the bottom two along with Frankie Cocozza.
The figures are welcome news for ITV who only the day previously saw a ratings fall for the Saturday performance show when less than 10 million viewers tuned in.
Sunday’s result show, which saw performances from Katy Perry and The Wanted, averaged a healthy audience of 11.6 million viewers between 8 and 9PM last night.
These figures have prompted some commentators to conclude that this year’s show has seen a shift in its demography from being a family show to a show aimed at a young edgy crowd. However, these people who are likely to be fans of the younger members of the judging panel, are most likely to be out on a Saturday night but will stop in on Sunday. If this is true, then ITV is likely to see this viewing pattern continue.
