New X Factor boydband The Risk, one of the bands formed by the judges at bootcamp, performed at judges houses but their performance left Tulisa and Jessie J unsure of the group, with the pair detecting tension between the members.
Andrew, Derry, Ashley, Mitchell and Marlon were rejected as solo artists at bootcamp, but the judges saw enough potential to offer them another chance as a group.
Speaking before their performance, Ashley admitted: “I think it has been tough you know being newly formed. You have to like change your mind set really quickly from thinking about yourself, to now thinking about the lads.
“No one wants to let anyone down because we know that everyone wants it so bad, which makes us more driven and motivated to do well.”
Marlon, who reached judges’ houses as a soloist last year, added: “I was really lucky last year I got chosen to be one for the final 8 to go to Danni’s Australian home, but unfortunately I stumbled at the last hurdle.
“I personally wasn’t prepared to be put into a group, I just felt like I might be too old for the other boys, I was looking around and I was thinking, well I can’t be in a group surely. I want this 10 times more than I did last year, I want to walk into that room, smile, looking confident and just do the most amazing performance, I don’t want to have to go home and be like it was a no again.”
Performing Jordan Sparks’ track No air, Tulisa detected tension in the group. She told pal Jessie J: “As much as they seem like they are cool with each other.”
Jessie added: “You can tell that they all want to outdo each other.”
Off stage the boys felt they had done well, with Marlon telling cameras: “We didn’t mess up which hopefully is good enough! ”
