2011 Auditions: Soldier Jonjo Kerr had a Shaky Start to His Mission Taking on Stereophonics

Jonjo Kerr managed to overcome nerves to wow the judges on tonight’s show singing a Stereophonics classis track. The soldier who is heading for Afghanistan, had to ask for a second shot after messing up his performance the first time round!
Before his audition he said: “Monday to Friday I am sort of in camp, and I try and get home as often as I can, every weekend normally, just so I can be a dad. My six-year-old son Bradley loves telling people his dad’s a soldier.
“All the lads are super behind me, this would be the biggest morale boost I could give them, it’s fair to say that I’m more scared when in front of the judges than I am of going to Afghanistan, because I have trained for Afghanistan.”
His son Bradley added: “I think my dad’s got The X Factor.”
On stage Jonjo revealed how his wife was due to give birth to a little boy in just 14 days, adding nervously: “I hope I don’t mess it up! Petrified!
Performing Stereophonics’ Handbags And Gladrags, Jonjo initially messed up his performance, saying “I’m sorry can I start again; I got the timing wrong, I’m really sorry.”
Gary warned him: “You’ve got to get your act together, you’ve got to organise yourself, you’ve got to get prepared and this is no longer you performing in front of your mates…”

Judges Comments

After singing again, Gary had some advice for the soldier: “Let’s get serious, here’s the lesson for you today, you’ve got to lose all the walking up and down the stage because you’re nervous and get focused. Kelly?”

Kelly added: “You moved me to tears because I was so happy to see you come out of yourself for just a second and that moment you just seemed so happy, so I was really happy for you! Because you really seem like you want this, but I also agree with Gary, you have got to work hard.”

Louis kicked off the voting: “The audience love you, you’ve definitely got something, I know you can go really far in this competition; you have to start believing in yourself, I’m saying yes.”

Gary had further advice for Jonjo, explaining: You’ve got to get prepared, get focused because I think there’s definitely a lot of potential here, it’s a yes from me well done, you’ve got four yes’s.”

With two more yeses from both Kelly and Tulisa, Jonjo was off to bootcamp, with Tulisa confessing as he left the stage: “Anyone else’s who messes up on their first couple of lines, you’re like, oh come on be more prepared, but you fell in love with him.”
