77-year-old Raymond Patterson impressed The X Factor judges at his audition in Newcastle singing a Westlife track.

The 77-year-old sang Westlife’s You Raise Me Up, but before taking to the stage he was introduced to Kian and Mark from the band, but did not appear to know who they were.

Xtra Factor presenter Caroline told Raymond: “These guys are quite good at singing that song.”

Raymond replied: “I don’t really know what Westlife looks like, but I know one of them’s a blonde haired lad.”

He added: “I don’t know what to expect. I’ve never been in front of a crowd as big as this before. I’ll give it a go. It’s the only chance I’m going to get. I might pop my clogs before I get to the end of it, but I’ll enjoy it”

The Westlife boys then gave him a tip in how to sing the song and judging by the reaction of the audience and the judge’s comments, it seem to have paid off.

After his performance, Tulisa said: “I absolutely loved that audition; I think that was a beautiful performance.”

Nicole added: “Not bad for a young kid like yourself! Thank you.”

Gary commented: “There are two members of Westlife and I’ve never seen them look so worried!

Louis raved: “That’s how to do an audition, fantastic!”

Raymond sailed through to bootcamp with four yeses.
