Luke Friend is hoping he will be judged tonight on his vocal and not on his hair after his performance of ‘Every Breath You Take’ by The Police.
Luke is one of the three boys in the boys category mentored by Louis Walsh this year; the other two boys being Sam Callahan and Nicolas McDonald.
The 17-year-old singer has already felt what it is like to be a winner after being crowned singing champion for TeenStar, the nationwide competition for teens and pre-teens, at The O2 in London.
However, having confessed to not washing his hair for nine month at his X Factor audition earlier this year, he has a lot of work to do to convince some members of the voting public that he his a real talent and contender to win The X Factor this year.
However, tonight Luke looked every bit a star when he delivered a relaxed and chilled version of Sting’s classic and for us he has finally made his mark on the show with his talent.
The judges loved him too, this is what they had to say:
NICOLE SCHERZINGER: “I love your tone. When you perform I feel it. You have this energy. Good job!”
LOUIS WALSH: “Luke I loved your energy, you brought it. I know what this means to you. I don’t care about your hair, I want people to vote for you!”
GARY BARLOW: “Luke your voice is an acquired taste but I really love it and I love this direction for you. The folk rock thing really works and it was a great performance but I think there is a load of mums out there who want to wash your hair.”
SHARON OSBOURNE: “Luke I just said to Gary you gave it your all. The performance value was bang on. Your voice isn’t the greatest but you don’t need it with that face. You have all the performance skills of a true person that should make it through to the end of this contest. You have got it all going on!”
