Nicholas McDonald, a 16 year old student from Motherwell failed to impress Gary Barlow with his rendition of ‘You Raise Me Up’ by Westlife at The X Factor auditions.
The teenager told the judges that he is desperate to succeed in the competition because he’s ‘rubbish at school.
The panel appreciated his honesty and three of the four judges liked his vocal talent and after the performance Nicole Scherzinger admitted:
“You have talent, it’s a raw talent but that’s what I like about you.”
Gary Barlow enjoyed it too but didn’t think the time was right for Nicholas and added:
“I am going to be really honest here. In a year’s time I think you could probably be a finalist, so for now I am going to say no.”
Louis Walsh disagreed though and said:
“I think you have something, I am going to say yes.”
Despite Gary’s stance, Nicholas made it to the next round with 3 yesses.
