2011: Lascel Wood Impressed at His X Factor Audition

College student Lascel Wood’s emotional audition on The X Factor tonight won over the judges, as he revealed a tough upbringing in foster care.

Taking to the stage, Lascel told the judges: “Growing up wasn’t always easy, I was in and out of foster care as a child, but that happened and it was just something that was a part of my life that I’ve now moved on from and it’s made me more thick-skinned and made me who I am today.

“I’ve actually left foster care now and I’ve got my mum here today, my real mum, and she’s never actually heard me properly sing on a stage before so this is really important.”

Judges Comments

After his performance, Lascel’s proud mum joined him onstage as the panel delivered their verdicts;
Tulisa : “Absolutely outstanding performance, amazing, unbelievable.”

Kelly : “I’m very emotional…first of all, I don’t know you but I’m very proud of you, to come here today and just really do such a wonderful job in this audition and the relationship you have with your mother is just so beautiful…it’s really beautiful to see talent come on the stage and they’re just really hungry and excited and passionate, it’s so beautiful to watch, it really was great audition.”

Gary Barlow: “Lascel, that was absolutely stunning, and I think for me more so than the beautiful singing, the great pitch, the great timing, more importantly than that was that I believed every single word that you sang to us…well done. ”

Louis Walsh: “Lascel, you should be so happy, that was an amazing performance, you’ve got something really, really special.”
