Simon Cowell set to appear in The X Factor 2012 live shows via Skype

With disappointing viewing figures in last year’s X factor live shows, ITV has been looking at ways that the hit TV show can once again triumph over Strictly come dancing on the BBC.

One idea that the ITV bosses have reportedly come up with, is for Simon Cowell to critique the contestants in the new series of The X Factor – starting later this year – as a ‘Voice of God’ type of character, where he is able to speak on the ITV series via Skype.

The idea comes not only because of last year’s ratings war with the BBC, but also the current battle between The Voice and Britain’s Got Talent.

Cowell is desperate to build the viewing figures again and prove to people that his show is still relevant and thinks a comeback of sorts is the best way to do it.

A source told The Sun:

“This is serious now for Simon. BGT losing out to The Voice is one thing, but he’s terrified this is going to have negative repercussions for The X Factor.

“All options are being considered and having him as the Voice of God is one of them. He quite likes the idea.”
