One Direction cleans up at the MTV VMA winning three gongs

One Direction had the time of their lives at the MTV Video Music Awards ceremony last night scooping all three awards they were nominated for.

The group, who not long ago watched the show from their living rooms before finishing in third place on The X Factor back in 2010, picked up all three gongs for their debut music video What Makes You Beautiful.

The boys – Harry, Zayn, Liam, Niall and Louis – picked up the awards for Best Pop Video, Best New Artist and Most Share-Worthy Video.

Writing on Twitter, Simon congratulated the boys: “Congratulations 1D. I’m very proud of you. Celebrate!”

The OneD boys have had an incredible year with their debut album ‘Up All Night’ reaching No.1 in 17 countries and became the first UK band to debut at No.1 on the US Billboard chart with their first album. They’ve sold out tours across the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand, alongside New York’s Madison Square Garden along the way. One Direction’s live dvd has also been an amazing success, reaching No.1 in 27 different countries.

In Spring 2013 One Direction will begin their sold out World Tour in the UK which includes a massive nine shows at London’s O2 Arena.
