According to The Sun, the US actor has been blamed for this year’s show falling ratings, despite still achieving a whopping 11.6 million viewers earlier in the summer.

According to the paper, bosses felt David lacked a connection with the acts. Hasselhooff joined the panel alongside Michael McIntyre as the replacement for Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan in the new line-up with Amanda Holden.

A source told the tabloid: “David was a great booking at the time. We thought he’d bring loads of laughs and warmth but it didn’t work out. He was fun but had no connection with the acts.”

“The panel lacked sparkle and it was reflected in the acts that went through.”

Michael McIntyre’s future looks uncertain too; bosses branded him as too nice!

The source added: “ITV want a new panel as it didn’t work this year. Most acts were below par and the chemistry just wasn’t there.”

A spokesperson said: “It is too early to confirm the panel for the next series.”
