Mary Berry showcased her beetroot and chocolate traybake on The Great Sport Relief Bake Off, before challenging this week’s celebrity bakers to bake the delicious treat to her exact recipe.
The ingredients are: 250g self-raising flour, 4 tbsp cocoa powder, 2 tsp baking powder, 250g cooked beetroot in natural juices, 3 tbsp white wine vinegar, 160ml buttermilk, 160g butter, softened and 230g caster sugar and 3 large free-range eggs.
For the icing: 280g cream cheese, 50g unsalted butter, softened, 50g icing sugar, sifted and ½ tsp vanilla extract.
For the candied beetroot hearts: 2 x raw beetroots and 200g caster sugar.
