Nadia Sawalha banana fritters with star anise and ginger recipe on Nadia’s Family Feasts

Nadia Sawalha served up delicious Chinese banana fritters with star anise and preserved ginger on Nadia’s Family Feasts.

The ingredients for the Ginger Star anise caramel: 30g butter, 80g soft light brown sugar, 2 Star anise, 2 knobs of stem ginger, finely chopped and 120ml double cream.

For the Banana Fritters: 100g Self raising flour, 40g Corn flour, 1 teaspoon Chinese 5 Spice, 1 teaspoon bicarb soda, 2 Tablespoons ginger syrup (from jar of stem ginger), 150ml cold sparkling water and 4 ripe bananas.

Vanilla ice cream to serve.
