A canapé is the quintessential snack for a very special event and as far as events goes, they don’t come much more special than Christmas.

The name, canapé, comes from the French word for “couch”, which draws on the analogy that the garnish sits on top of the white bread it was traditionally served on. This much-loved, bite-sized snack sets a global standard in cuisine, and for many people, it requires careful planning and placement because not any old canapé platter will do.

Mary also prepared a Herby cream cheese canapés that looks very tasty indeed.
