Si and Dave make a delicious Austrian Schokogugelhupf chocolate Viennese cake on the Hairy Bikers’ Bakeation.
The Bikers says: “You’ll need a gugelhupf or ring-shaped cake tin for this Viennese cake, which is served with afternoon coffee in the wonderful cafés of that city. We made it by the side of a mountain road on the Grossglockner, the highest peak in Austria, where it tasted even more amazing.”
The ingredients for the cake are: 150g butter, plus 2 tsp, softened, 50g ground almonds, plus 1 tbsp for dusting, 150g dark chocolate, broken into pieces, 150g icing sugar, sifted, 4 eggs, separated, 125g self-raising flour and ½ tsp baking powder.
For the icing and decoration: 125g dark chocolate, 40g butter, 1 tbsp golden syrup, 15–20g flaked or slivered almonds and sugar crystals (optional).
