It is the quarter finals of the Great British Bake Off and the judges decided to put the quarter finalist to the test working with advanced dough.
The advanced dough technical challenge stretches the bakers to the limit as they tackle Paul Hollywood’s povitica coil loaf recipe. The coil loaf is a beautiful eastern European cross between a bread and a pastry filled with a hidden design of swirls of cinnamon and walnuts.
The povitica (that is also known as a potica) gets its name from the Slovenian word poviti, which means “to wrap in.” Every family has its favourite recipe and a walnut povitica, the most popular kind, can vary from one household to the next.
Sweet povitica can be served as dessert with coffee or dry white wine, and savoury povitica is delicious as a side to the main meal or as a simple snack.
