Mary Berry Tiramisu cake recipe with saucy puddings and baked alaskas on The Great British Bake Off 2014

It’s desserts week in the bake off tent and the remaining bakers face more tough challenges set by Paul and Mary.

First up is the signature challenge, and this week the bakers must bake saucy puddings – delicate sponges hiding a gooey saucy filling or a saucy surprise at the bottom.

Next it’s the technical challenge; they must bake a tiramisu cake with layers to Mary Berry’s recipe. It’s a new kind of tiramisu requiring the bakers to temper chocolate, bake beautifully thin coffee-soaked sponges and create perfect layers of sponge, cream and chocolate.

The one who does the worst job could well be in the firing line at the end of the third challenge.

The main ingredients for a tiramisu cake are: 350g Unsalted butter, 125g Soft light brown sugar, 225g Caster sugar, 6 Free range eggs, 350g Self-raising flour, 2 Tbsp cocoa, 2 Tbsp instant coffee granules and 2 Tbsp boiling water.

For the final challenge, the bakers must bake incredible show-stopping baked alaskas made up of cake, meringue and ice cream.

The tiramisu cake recipe is one of many that can be found in Mary’s latest baking book Simple Cakes avaliable from Amazon.
