John Whaite makes a quick and easy birthday cake the he calls the naked birthday cake on today’s Lorraine that took him only ten minutes to prepare.
John says: “Many cakes are too sweet; my naked cake is stripped back, less sweet and makes use of seasonal fruit.”
The ingredients for the cake are: 225g butter, 225g caster sugar, 225g plain flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 2 tbsp soured cream, 4 eggs, Zest of 1 lemon and 3g salt.
For the buttercream and jam: 125g unsalted butter, 225 icing sugar and ½ jar of raspberry jam (seedless if possible).
For the topping: Punnet strawberries thinly sliced and Punnet of blueberriesIcing sugar to dust.
