The Holborn Dining Rooms host Ashley Palmer-Watts, Michael Caines, Nathan Outlaw, Simon Rogan and Tom Kitchin as MasterChef 2014 Finalist serves up a treat

It’s the first day of the MasterChef 2014 finals and the four finalists – Ping, Angela, Luke and Jack – are just a few days away from knowing who will be crown MasterChef Champion 2014.

However, over the next three nights, the finalists face some incredible challenges, putting their skill, to the test once more as they do all they can to impress some of the world’s greatest chefs and raise their food to a level they never dreamed possible.

Tonight it’s the most iconic and nerve racking challenge yet – The Chef’s Table. The finalists are sent to The Holborn Dining Rooms in London where they are tasked with cooking an exquisite four-course menu, designed by the two-Michelin starred chef Tom Kerridge, for a table of the country’s finest chefs: Ashley Palmer-Watts, Michael Caines, Nathan Outlaw, Simon Rogan and Tom Kitchin.

Each cook is responsible for one course from the daunting menu; tension is immense and the expectations high in the kitchen. The finalists battle with unfamiliar methods and dishes that demand precision cooking, a flawless palate and perfect timing.

Angela was nominated for starter duty by Tom Kerridge, while Luke lands fish course duty, Jack the main course and Ping the dessert. They have 4 hours to prepare the meal of their lives.

However, at MacterChef HQ the four finalists face an invention test with a twist. Their main ingredient is the humble chicken. With this at the centre of the dish they must choose from a range of ingredients, and design a dish to showcase the chicken and their skill in handling it. The best two cooks are immediately through to the final tasks.

But in a twist, the weakest two will have to cook again. This time they will be against each other, head to head, for their place in the competition.
