Pigeon Post by Raymond McArdle, Dig For Victory by Chris McGowan and Fighting Food by Will Brown starter recipes starts series 9 of the Great British Menu

The new series of the Great British Menu got on the way yesterday with three chefs from Northern Ireland doing battle in the kitchen to see who could serve up the best starter.

Pigeon Post by Raymond McArdle, Dig For Victory by Chris McGowan and Fighting Food by Will Brown starters are the dishes that got the new series of the Great British Menu up and running this year.

This challenge in this series is to produce 21st century dishes worthy of our war heroes. The chefs’ creations must evoke the wartime spirit of the generation which fought for our freedom, honour the bravery shown throughout the Second World War and, of course, taste delicious too.

To create their dishes, the chefs have taken inspiration from their families’ and communities’ contributions to the war effort as well as delving into the history books.
