James Martin Butternut Squash Soup with homemade Flowerpot Bread recipe for a pick-me-up meal

James Martin makes flowerpot bread to serve with his butternut squash soup as part of his pick-me-up themed meals on today’s James Martin: Home Comforts.

James says about his dish: “Make a simple vegetable soup feel special by making your own bread to enjoy with it.”

To make his bread James takes all the hassle and fuss away by using a ready made bread dry mix available from your local supermarket. Just had a pinch of salt and some warm water to the mix and you’re away.

For his easy to make butternut squash soup, James simple chops a butternut squash into small chunks and adds them to a frying pan with butter and sliced onions. He fries them for a few minutes before adding vegetable stock, milk and seasoning. He brings the pan to the boil and allowed to simmer for a further 5 minutes before blending.

He finishes the soup by adding lime juice and lime zest.
