Tom Richard found himself under enormous pressure at the X Factor auditions in Cardiff following his performance of The Script ‘man Who Can’t Be Moved’.
The 16 year old, from Pontypridd in South Wales, auditioned for judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and Pixie Lott. Following his performance the panel weren’t convinced, they thought it was very dated. He went on to sing ‘This Is The Moment’ from stage musical Jekyll and Hyde, which irritated Simon Cowell even more.
After claiming that Tom wasn’t current enough, Simon criticised his second song choice saying:
“Did you listen to what I just said to you? What did I just say to you? I’m now relying on you to tell me what people of your age want to buy from you.”
He added:
“I don’t think you could have chosen a worse song. You’re not what I’d be looking for as a popstar, so it’s a no.”
Cheryl liked Tom and said:
“You’re trying to show us what you can do vocally and stuff but what we’re looking for is someone who comes in and says, look this is who I want to be, this is where I want to go and you sang two completely different song. Despite all that, I’m going to say yes”.
Louis was impressed by Tom and said yes to him. However, he was not at all impressed with Pixie Lott when she also said no, sending Tom home.
Aided by the audience, Louis then pressured Pixie Lott to change her mind. He started ranting:
“You have to say yes!!! I want him through!!”
After much deliberating Pixie did a u turn and sent Tom through to bootcamp to the delight of Louis Walsh.
