James Martin cooks a meal that he remembers from when he was a kid, Granny’s toad in the hole with Mum’s onion gravy, for his midweek supper theme on James Martin: Home Comforts.
James says: “My family recipe for a traditional toad in the hole uses beef dripping or lard. Lard may have fallen out of favour lately but for me taste is king. You simply can’t beat it.”
The master chef also says; “Toad in the hole is a simple recipe, but there is nothing wrong with attention to detail. Browning the sausages seals in the flavour and ensure they look as good as they taste.”
