MasterChef The Professionals: Aline, James, David and Oli cook for survival in week 3

The first four chefs in week three of MasterChef The Professionals, will go head to head to take on new challenges set by master chefs Michel Roux Junior and Monica Galetti, to see who will survive to cook another day and who will be on their way home.

Their first task on Monday was to get through Monica’s first skills test. Now they must prove to Monica once again and also Michel Roux Junior in the food classic challenge, that they have the skills to remain in the competition.

The four chefs that will cook for survival on Tuesday are:

James 41, from Birmingham – A British Army Sergeant in the reserves working as a head chef. James has been a chef for 24 years and catered for 6,000 people during the Olympics.

David 25, Reading – A Junior Sous Chef with ambition to open his own restaurant.

Aline 24, London – Brazilian born now lives in London and likes to cook British food with a French twist.

Oli 25, York – Originally from Leeds but now lives in York where he works in a gastro pub as head chef. He works seven days a week and has a strong ambition to get noticed for his skills.

The Second Skills Test

For today’s skills task, the judges give the chefs ten minutes each to create a savoury sabayon and to use it to make a glaze for some seafood. With a sweet sabayon being more common, this will not only test how the contestants work under pressure but also their ability to adapt their skills.

The Classics Tests

Michel makes a French pork pie stuffed with chestnut and apple and served with a British salad cream. He gives the chefs one hour to recreate his dish from a basic recipe that contains no weights or measurements. The pressure is on as they must make the prefect pie, with a crisp outside and moist inside.

Finally, the four are asked to cook their own choice of classic dish for Michel in just one hour.


The chefs gave the tasks their best effort, but in the end only three would make it through to the next round. The unfortunate chef that failed to wow the judges with his dishes and was sent home was Oli.
