Junior Bake off 2013: James Martin’s melt in the middle chocolate fondants recipe

It is day two of Junior Bake-off 2013 and four new young bakers have made their way to the bake-off tent where Mary Berry and James Martin will keep a watchful eye on the up and coming bakers and to set them two tasks to test their baking skills.

Today’s hopefuls hoping to book a place in the semi-finals are :  Ben, 11, from Wales, Ann, 12 from Bristol, Finn, 10, from North Yorkshire and Ellie, 11, from Edinburgh.

The technical challenge for the bakes today is one of James Martin’s recipes; melt in the middle chocolate fondant.

The showstopper challenge is one that tests the creativity of the four bakers. They had to bake a cake with a jungle theme that could be any size or any shape, but should be nicely decorated.

Ann choose to bake a banana and chocolate monkey cake, Finn made Swampy the cake with a byte, Ben went with a tropical coconut and lime cake and Ellie bake a parrot coloured jungle cake. See their creations below:

However, despite all their efforts, only one baker will make it to the semi-finals and today the person chosen by James and Mary was Ellie.
