Dating expert Lisa Palmer and Journalist Samantha Brick debate the question of should you only date within your social class on This Morning.

Lisa Palmer says she never recommends mixing your social class romantically and she never will.

Samantha Brick, who lives happily in France with a working-class man, totally disagrees with Lisa, and says of course, in 2014, we should archaic rules about who we date or marry and we that and love isn’t about money or class.

Lisa said she only dates men who fall into established, ‘elite’ social classes and she thought it was important for you and your loved one to have similar backgrounds, values and education, and to have money. She believes this is the recipe for a good relationship.

Samantha Brick thinks it’s a lazy, old-fashioned idea and that we no longer live in the ‘Downton Abbey’ era, and that class today is a really fluid thing. One day you can be working-class and the next day you can be super-wealthy.

A head of the debate programme asked viewers to vote on what they thought about the subject. Does class matter in relationships?
