UK boyband One Direction have made history by achieving a number one debut album in the USA, shifting an impressive 177,000 copies in the past week alone.
The group have become the first ever UK stars to debut at number one on the US album charts, even The Beatles only managed to hit number four.
It’s the third number one US album from a UK reality TV star, following in the footsteps of former X Factor winner Leona Lewis and Britain’s Got Talent runner up Susan Boyle.
In reaching the number one spot, One Direction toppled fellow Brit Adele sending her down to second position having sold a further 160,000 copies of her record 21.
Other X Factor stars are also lining up to have a go of making it in the States. The 2010 runner up Rebecca Ferguson and fourth placed Cher Lloyd will also promote their debut albums in the country over the coming months.
