The X Factor 2010: Aiden Grimshaw Slows Down Michael Jackson’s Thriller on Halloween

Aiden GrimshawAiden Grimshaw put his own stamp on the Michael Jackson’s classic song Thriller on Saturday that saw mixed reviews from the judges.

The song was much slower than the original and as a result we believe took a lot away for the style of dancing we have become accustomed to with this song. Nonetheless, we applaud his attempt to show originality and creativity.

In his video diary during the week the 19 year old was concerned that one judge in particular – Cheryl Cole – might not get it. He said:

“Today we are routining songs for this weekend. I’m really excited about week four. I’ve been offered the most massivest song ever. In the world. So I’m really excited.”

“It might be another intense one, so Cheryl Cole might not be happy. And I might bust out one dance move at the end.”

This is what the judges had to say on the night:

Louis Walsh: A big challenge. Dannii you gave him a really really big challenge giving him a Michael Jackson song. You totally changed the song, it was a very very intense performance. It might not be everybody’s cup of tea but I really like it. I think you are a genuine, real music artist.

Dannii Minogue: Aiden, Halloween is here. You did everything that was asked of you. I don’t think people give you enough credit. You are 18 years old and you have grown so much since your first performance.

Cheryl Cole: It was a really brave thing to do, to take such an iconic song that everyone associates definitely with the Halloween theme and with a massive dance production. I can’t work out in my mind if that was really right or really wrong. I don’t think every song requires that amount of intensity; I would like to see you smile a little bit.

Simon Cowell: It was bizarre, you and 25 dummies on stage. My feeling is, I think it needed to pickup tempo much sooner. I think it was indulgent, even though some people will like it, it was too much to the left. It’s frustrating because it could have been fantastic but it was too slow, too long.
