Nigel Barden served up an alternative venison cottage pie with mash potatoes for British Pie Week on Radio 2 Drivetime with Simon Mayo.
The ingredients are: 2 tbsp oil, 6 rashers smoked streaky bacon, chopped, 1 large onion, finely chopped, 1 large carrot, finely chopped, Leaves from 2 sprigs of rosemary, chopped, 600g minced venison, 1 heaped tbsp plain flour, 300ml red wine, 500ml beef or game stock, salt and freshly ground black pepper.
For the mash: 1kg floury potatoes, peeled & cut into 2cm chunks, A knob of butter and A splash milk.
