One Direction marks second anniversary as a group thanking fans on Twitter

One Direction marks 2 years in music

It is hard to believe that One Direction have been going for only 2 years. It seems as though they have been around forever, but 2 years ago Zayn, Liam, Niall, Louis and Harry did not know each other until they attended the UK X Factor bootcamp.

Yesterday the boys took to Twitter to thank fans for joining them on their “incredible journey” over the past 24 months.

In 2010 The X Factor UK guest judge Nicole Scherzinger suggested banding together Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson to form One Direction and enter them into the Groups category of the show.

At one stage many though they would go on to win the show but they ended up finishing in third place. However, they have gone on to have huge chart success around the world, and gave special shout out to fans on Twitter:

“Guys its been 2 yeas today since we were formed,” Niall tweeted. “It’s been incredible so far, its all down to you guys! Love you all soo much! Thank you

Niall also thanked fans for helping the band pick up three awards at last night’s Teen Choice Awards 2012, including Choice Summer Music Star: Group, Choice Music Breakout: Group and Choice Love Song for their hit ‘What Makes You Beautiful’.

“Also guys, we are soo happy, we won 3 awards at teen choice last night!” Niall posted. “Thank you all soo much for everything you do for us! Its amazing.”

One Direction are currently working hard on their second studio album, the follow-up to their 2011 debut record ‘Up All Night’.
