Israel Donowa and Charlotte Scally have become the latest dancers to be eliminated from the 2011 series of So You Think You Can Dance. The pair were axed by the judging panel in last night’s quarter final live show after coming amongst the lowest placed dancers after the public vote (This week viewers were able to vote for each dancer individually for the first time).
After the votes were cast, Charlotte and Israel found themselves in the bottom four for the first time alongside Lee Bridgman and Bethany Rose Harrison after the top 8 all performed a range of routines including solo dances, duets and as a group.
Once the bottom four were announced, Nigel Lythgoe told the dancers in danger the result. Starting with the girls, Nigel told Bethany: “For some reason you are not connecting with the audience out there. Whether it’s because you’re beautiful or sexy, I don’t know, but women aren’t picking up the phone. It’s nothing to do with your dancing, in fact we all agreed you were the best in girls routine tonight.”
Nigel continued: “Charlotte, it’s a split vote tonight… two of us wanted to save you and two of us voted for you to leave. As head judge it comes down to my choice and so you will be the one going home tonight. You’ve got a wonderful personality, we just needed you to grow in technique.”
It was then time for Lee and Israel to discover their fate, with Nigel saying: “I think the entire panel is agreed that Israel has had the greatest journey, he has grown each week and we’re absolutely amazing at how much he’s developed. However we are unanimous in saying it’s Israel’s turn to leave us.”
Speaking after her exit, Charlotte told Cat Deeley: “You know what? I’ve enjoyed every minute and I just want to say thank you so much for giving me this opportunity. I’m gonna miss Matt, he was an awesome partner.”
Meanwhile Israel said: “I’ve definitely grown as a performer and as a dancer, this is only the beginning. I’ve loved dancing with Beth and performing in front of all these people.. I just loved it.”
Bethany Rose, Lee and the rest of the remaining Top 6 will continue on to perform in next weekend’s semi-final show.
