Cheryl Cole has been axed from The X Factor USA and replaced by Nicole Scherzinger after just a few weeks in the job.
Reports from the United States suggest that the singer was droped because the American audience had issues with her accent. However, according to The Sun, it was Cheryl’s decision to leave the show.
A source told the newspaper Cheryl left the show after feeling “homesick”, or perhaps this is just a case of PR damage control.
“It hasn’t worked out,” the insider revealed. “She’s homesick and wants to return to the UK. She’s had enough. Whether she ends up back on UK X Factor is open to speculation.”
Cheryl joined the show earlier this month, saying: “I’m so excited to be taking part. With the talent they have out in America, I’m sure we’re going to find someone very special. I can’t wait to get started.”
The Girls Aloud singer – who quit The UK X Factor at the same time as joining the US version of the show – has already filmed auditions in both LA and Chicago. Auditions in Dallas were set to continue today.
Simon Cowell said last week after the first audition shows: “The audience seemed to warm to Cheryl. No problems with the understanding, from what we’ve heard.”
He added: “I’m thrilled for Cheryl. She is massively excited about this show.”
Sources suggest that Nicole Scherzinger, current co-hosting the programme, will take over as judge while Brit Steve Jones will continue to host the show alone.
As yet there is nothing official, with representatives for The X Factor, Cheryl Cole or Nicole Scherzinger yet to comment.
Meanwhile the move has seen immediate speculation that Chezza could be back on The X Factor UK this week.
