The X Factor 2010 winner Matt Cardle has secured the coveted Christmas number one spot with his debut single ‘When We Collide’, selling over 400,000 copies in the first week alone.

Facebook campaigns which had attempted to derail Matt’s efforts flopped badly, with John Cage’s ‘silence track’ called 4’33” reaching only 21.

On hearing that his track was Christmas number one an elated Matt said:

“I just can’t believe it. As if winning wasn’t enough! I honestly didn’t think I’d even make it on to the live shows, let alone win and now I’m the Christmas number one.

“I can’t even begin to describe how if feels. It’s nuts, crackers and crazy. To think that many people have supported me and bought the record is absolutely mind blowing.”
