John Torode ravioli with meatballs pasta and Donal Skehan tagliatelle with pea recipes leads the way for Kais, Abigail, Coco and Jonah on Masterchef 2014 UK

On day 2 of Junior MasterChef, John Torode served up meatballs with ravioli filled with peas and chilli pasta, and Donal Skehan cooked smoke salmon tagliatelle with pea as the lead dishes ahead of the young cooks entering the Junior Masterchef kitchen.

In their first task, the junior cooks must follow the lead of John and Donal and cook a pasta dish to impress.

Meet day 2 junior cooks:

Kais 12, from London
Abigail 11, from Essex
Coco 11, from Devon
Jonah 12, from Cheshire.

In their second and final task, the junior cooks must serve up a two course meal to wow the judges. John Torode and Donal Skehan will then decided who’s plates of food stands out from the crowd enough to progress the young cook to the next stage of the competition.

After doing battle in the kitchen to try to win over the judges, all the young cooks did very well with their dishes but it was Jonah that the judges selected to go through to the semi-finals.
