It is the semifinals of the Great British Bake Off and Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood set the the semi finalist the task of baking patisserie.
For their Signature challenge they must bake baklava; two different types of any flavour they like, but with the crisp flaky layers of perfectly pulled filo pastry.
Baklava is a rich, sweet pastry made of layers of filo filled with chopped nuts and sweetened and held together with syrup or honey. It is characteristic of the cuisines of the former Ottoman Empire, but is also found in Central and Southwest Asia.
The four remaining bakers must bake 24 baklavas in total to please the taste buds of Paul and Mary.
