John Torode and Lisa Faulkner served up a delicious chocolate black forest cake on John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen.
The ingredients are: 340g caster sugar, 230g plain flour, 90g cocoa powder, 2 tsp baking powder, 2 tsp bicarbonate of soda, 1 pinch of salt (optional), 2 eggs , 140ml mild/light olive oil, 2 tsp vanilla extract , 250ml milk, 250ml boiling water , Approx 600g cherries in syrup or kirsch (drained with liquid reserved), 350ml double cream, 1 tbsp icing sugar and 1 tsp vanilla bean paste or essence.
A flake bar or any chocolate that you can grate or sprinkle over the cake.
Cocktail cherries or fresh cherries with the stalks on for decoration and Thyme leaves (optional).
