Paul Ainsworth served up a marchpane rose dessert on Royal Recipes with Michael Buerk. This delicious treat was served to Queen Elizabeth I at a banquet in 1575.
The ingredients are: 250g ground almonds, 200g icing sugar, plus extra for dusting, 2 tbsp rosewater and 4-5 tbsp cold water.
To decorate: 200g icing sugar, 1 tbsp rosewater, edible gold lustre spray and edible red lustre spray.
