James Martin kick starts his Christmas cooking season on his new week day cooking show on the BBC, making a delicious apple tart with homemade marzipan.
On this first episode, the master chef invited the legendary actress Una Stubbs to carry out the all-important taste test of his culinary delights.
Una Stubbs started her career in entertainment as a dancer at the age of 14 before moving into acting. Her first appearance onscreen was in ‘Cool for Cats’, one of the first British television music programs designed for a teenage audience, in 1956. In the early 1960s she worked in clubs, cabaret, and revue across London, before landing her first dramatic role in ‘Summer Holiday’ in 1963, alongside Cliff Richard.
James makes the entertainer an apple tart that he sees as a real alternative to Christmas pudding.
The ingredients for his apple tart consists of puff pastry, free-range egg yolk, marzipan, dessert apples, peeled, butter and clear honey.
James serves his apple tart with a lovely caramel source that consist of caster sugar, star anise, cloves, freshly grated nutmeg, juniper berries and double cream.
James serves his tart with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle.
