It is week four of Masterchef The professionals and eight new chefs will try to out shine each other cooking for master chefs Michel Roux Junior, Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace, in their bid to reach the final.
The new chefs today are: Adam 27, from Manchester, Patrick 27, from Killinchy, Adam 24, from London, Alex 26, from Banchory, Nick 28, from London, David 29, from Dunoon, Jack 21, from London, Chad 35, Hollywell.
The first challenge for the new intake is Monica’s infamous invention skills test. The chefs most not only impress Monica with their technique, presentation and a tasty dish, but must also convince diner and food critique Gregg Wallace that they have what it takes to become a master chef.
Today Monica challenges them to make one dish using a selection of just seven ingredients: pork sausage, spinach, squash, gorgonzola, walnuts, apples and almonds.
Monica first cooks a dish for Gregg from the same ingredients in the same amount of time – just one hour – to demonstrate the standard of food she expects and what is possible in the time. Monica creates delicious ravioli stuffed with sausage meat dish.
For today, all eight chefs are safe, but tomorrow they are split into two groups of four. The first four will return on Tuesday and the second on Wednesday when one from each group will be sent home if they fail to meet the standards expected from Monica and Michel Roux Jr.
They will first be tested by Monica’s much feared Skills Test followed by Michel Roux Jr’s demanding Classics challenges, for a place in the quarter-finals.
