Steve Dorset wins the second episode of Allan Carr’s singing game show ‘The Singer Takes IT All’ with his rendition of American Pie by Don Mclean.
According to McLean (as posted on his website), this song was originally inspired by the death of Buddy Holly. “The Day The Music Died” is February 3, 1959, when Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper were killed in a plane crash after a concert.
The 35-year-old drama teacher from Surrey, stayed in the gold zone for 69 seconds beating all his rivals to get the chance to sing again for the opportunity to win the £15,000 maximum cash prize.
For his final performance Steve was asked to sing ‘Poker Face’ by Lady Gaga chosen from a short list of six songs. Steve’s performance was judged a hit by the voting public, and he was rewarded with the maximum prize of £15,000.
