Leo Ihenacho wowed Kylie Minogue on The Voice UK blind auditions with his début performance.
The 36 year old who was once in a pop group called The Streets, wants to find success in his own right and he told the panel:
“In my early 20s I joined a band called The Streets and it was such an exciting and fun time.It was one of the best times of my life. What a great experience. We did Jools Holland, had a number one album, performed on The Brits. We pretty much toured everywhere.”
He added:
“I left the band, I felt I was the sidekick of The Streets. I don’t want to be Robin anymore. I want to be Batman.”
“I think some people will be surprised I am on this show but who cares? Doing a show like The Voice is a fantastic opportunity for me to showcase myself as a singer songwriter rather than that guy from The Streets. Stepping out onto that stage is going to be a lonely affair but I think I am ready.”
As Leo performed ‘Holding Back The Years’ both Kylie Minogue and Tom Jones turned to offer him a place in their team.
Tom said:
“You sound like a professional singer. Being as strong in falsetto as you are in full voice, that’s great. Another thing is, you wouldn’t only be an asset to my team, you would be the only male which is an advantage. We could do duets together, we could smash it.”
Kylie couldn’t quite compose herself though and it seems she might have a bit of a crush on the handsome Londoner.
After hiding behind the chairs in a bid to pull her thoughts together, the Kylie emerged and said:
“That’s the first time I had to hide for a start. It’s hard for me to compete with Sir Tom but all I can say is that we would have a good time together. It’s a bonus that this is the package….shut up Minogue! You sound amazing, you have dazzled me with the voice alone and then the rest. It could be interesting.”
In the end Leo made his choice saying:
“Sir Tom you are a legend but you have got to excuse me because I have fancied Charlene since I was this high.”
