Paula and Gary otherwise known as Strictly Wheels showed that a disability is no barrier to dancing if you have what it takes.
The duo auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent in Blackpool and wowed the panel with their ballroom dancing routine to Alicia Keys’ ‘Empire State Of Mind.’
Strictly Wheels are the first Wheelchair dance act to take to the stage of Britain’s Got Talent having only formed 18 months ago.
39-year-old Gary and 41-year-old Paula have been friends for 10 years, but only discovered their dancing ability on a visit to the pub.
Gary explains: “We do loads together, we had a few pints then got on the dance floor, now we’ve been dancing together for 18 months.”
Speaking about her health, wheelchair bound Paula reveals: “17 years ago I contracted MRSA when I had pneumonia, and that damaged by pelvis and spine. I’ve been in a wheelchair for eight years.”
The pair have been very active with their dancing since forming an act. They are the current UK Amateur Ballroom and Amateur Latin Champions and have won dance championships all over Europe in the past year alone.
