Ronan Parke and Paul Gbegbaje became the first two acts through to the Britain’s Got Talent 2011 live final. Ronan Parke went through automatically after topping the public vote following his amazing performance of ‘Make You Feel My Love’.
However Paul Gbegbaje had to wait nervously to see if he would be joining Ronan in the final having finished in the top three with cyclist Joe Oakley. It was up to Amanda, Simon, David and Michael to decide which would go through.
David Hasselhoff said: “It’s a very, very difficult decision because I loved your playing Paul but Joe your act is so amazing and so excited… good luck to you Paul, but I’ve got to go with Joe.”
Michael agree, saying: “The fact is it’s impossible to compare a pianist with a cyclist. I truly enjoyed you both, you both deserve to be here…. but I’m going to go with Joe.”
Amanda meanwhile voted for Paul, saying she was going to “make it easy” by going with the act that had “touched her the most”.
Simon Cowell, taking a sip of water before making the final vote, commented: “This is what I think: Joe, I think your act was better. Paul I think you were slightly hampered by your song choices but I see a lot of potential in you. Okay, so the person I am going choose is… Paul.
With the votes split the decision went back to the public vote, and the act with the most votes (behind Ronan) was Paul.
Talking about the tense decision with Ant and Dec, Paul said he was “overwhelmed”, adding: “I’m glad to be here and have this chance to prove Simon right. I want to thank the public for voting.”
