Rebecca Ferguson finished the 2010 X Factor series in second place behind Matt Cardle after a strong performance on finals night.

 

Singing Duffy’s ‘Distant Dreamer’ as her final song on the night – the song that would have been her debut track if she had won – Rebecca showed her class yet again and made us wish she had won so we could download the track.

The song was wholly suited to Rebecca’s tone and range and we thought she sang it beautifully. It might not have been everybody’s cup of tea but we loved it.

This is what the judges had to say about her performance:

Louis Walsh: We started out looking for an original authentic recording voice, you are it.

Dannii Minogue: Beautiful performance and I’m so glad you turned up at the auditions. The same as Matt you haven’t had that belief in your talent but through the competition we’ve seen you grow and you’re a beautiful lady.

Simon Cowell: That song was absolutely perfect for you Rebecca, I can’t call this, I don’t know what’s going to happen.

Cheryl Cole: You have been an absolute dream to work with, right from the beginning. The nation has took you to their hearts and I want you to believe that.

On hearing the news that Matt had won  Rebecca Ferguson said:

I’m so happy, so grateful and Matt’s amazing, I am happy to have gotten so far.
