Nigella Lawson black bread with dark rye flour and Irish stout recipe on on Nigella’s Cook, Eat, Repeat Christmas Special

Nigella Lawson served up a tasty no-knead black bread loaf with dark rye flour, Irish stout, black treacle, activated charcoal and cocoa on Nigella’s Cook, Eat, Repeat Christmas Special.

The ingredients are: 500ml Irish stout, such as Guinness, opened in advance if possible, 1 large free-range egg, at room temperature, separated, 30g dark muscovado sugar, 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, 2 tbsp black treacle, 300g dark rye flour, 300g strong white bread flour, 25g cocoa, 1 tsp activated charcoal (optional), 4 tsp nigella seeds, plus 1 tsp for sprinkling, 4 tsp caraway seeds, 4 tsp fennel seeds, ¼ tsp (1g, but it’s hard to get it to register on the scales) fast-action dried yeast, 1¼ tsp fine sea salt and vegetable oil, for greasing.
