On his 19th birthday, last year’s X Factor winner Joe McElderrry said he would not be worried if his new album was not a chart success.
Speaking to The Sun about the pressure for the album to be a big hit in the charts, McElderry said: “Look, I’ve just won The X Factor, the biggest show in Britain, so I’m not going to live in fear.”
“I’m never going to take it for granted, but what’s the point worrying if I’m going to be a flop? If that happens then there’s nothing I can do about it. All I can do is work my hardest.”
He when on to say: “I’m itching to get started. I’m planning some tracks that people won’t expect. I like to do different things. I’d love to play a festival like Glastonbury or T In The Park. I might not go down that well as I can’t imagine the crowd singing along to ‘The Climb’, but I’d like to give it a go.”
I guess Joe is not worried because unlike many other X Factor finalists, he knows he has the talent to make a career in the West End.
