In the final week of the competition, the junior cooks got the chance to broaden their culinary experience with a visit to London Zoo where they had to prepare a outdoors lunchtime barbecue two course meal for three hungry penguin zoo keepers. This was followed by a fun filled sports day at MasterChef HQ with a skills circuit test and cooking in relay teams.
They also got the chance to visit one of London’s top chocolate makers and had a messy time in their kitchen making and eating their own chocolates.
However, things got very serious and scary at MasterChef HQ when the three finalist had to make their very best dessert for restaurant critics William Sitwell, Tracey Macleod and Charles Campion.
Their final task today was to prepare a three course meal for the Junior MasterChef judges – John Torode and Donal Skehan – before one of these young cooks is crowned champion.
After their final showdown in the kitchen, it was 12-year-old Phoebe from Kent, who was crowned the winner of Junior MasterChef 2014 after serving up a menu consisting of a Courgette Soup served with Courgette Flower Fritters starter, a main of Brasioli – braising Steak stuffed with butter, garlic and pancetta, cooked in tomato sauce and served with tagliatelle, and a coffee and chocolate mousse topped with cream, and hazelnut biscotti.
