It is the fourth quarter-finals of the series this year and the six remaining chefs that cooked their way to this stage of the competition are desperate to go one step further and book a place in the semi-finals. All that stands in their way are the judges, the critics and their own cooking skills.
The Chefs
The Chefs that made it to the quarter finals are:
Adam 27, from Manchester, Patrick 27, from Killinchy, Adam 24, from London, Alex 26, from Banchory, Nick 28, from London, Jack 21, from London.
The Invention Test
Tonight the chefs must show Michel and Monica they have what it takes with a dish of their own invention. Choosing from a range of ingredients, including bone marrow, kid goat, oysters and whelks, mangoes, white chocolate and dates, they have an hour to cook a sweet or savoury dish good enough to propel them into the next round.
Only the best will do because after this first challenge Monica and Michel will send two chefs home. The best four chefs then face their most nerve-racking test to date.
The Critics
They must showcase their skills to three of the UK’s toughest restaurant critics – William Sitwell, Tracey MacLeod and Jay Rayner. With only an hour and a quarter, the remaining chefs must deliver a jaw-dropping two-course menu if they are to book a place in the semi-finals.
Only the two most talented chefs will go through to the semi-finals and stand a chance of becoming this year’s Professional MasterChef.
The Results
The two chefs that did not get the opportunity to showcase their cooking skills to the critics were Alex and Patrick. The chefs failed to excite the MasterChef judges, Michel Roux Junior and Monica Galetti with their food in the invention test and got their bus fare home.
The remaining four chefs cooked for the critics, and among the food served up were a few delights. But one chef – forever to be know as teachers pet – Adam from London, was in a class of his own.
Finally, the verdict was in, and the judges said a quick goodbye to Jack and Nick who did not do quite enough to make the grade for a semi-final place. This meant that Adam from London and Adam from Manchester were the two chefs that made it through to the semi-finals.
