The first pair in the Battle Round sing-off on The Voice on Sunday night was Cassius Henry and David Faulkner. And it was Cassius who immerged victorious and became the ninth contestant through to the live shows.
“The reason I paired you guys up is because I feel you can bring the best out of each other,” coach Jessie J told the pair.
But in rehearsals, Jessie wasn’t impressed with either of them.
“I’m not feeling any of the vibe from your blind auditions,” she said. “You’re standing there like you don’t want this.”
The duo went on to perform a unique take on Michael Jackson’s Beat It for the coaches.
“I’m actually shaking and getting teary, because I was tough on your guys, real tough,” Jessie commented. “But I saw SO much in that performance that wasn’t there when we first ran through it. I live for this. I live for seeing people who want to grow and get better, and you guys – I’m so proud of you both.”
Asked to choose between the pair, Jessie said: “I don’t know. Okay… the person I’m going to take through to the lives is Cassius.”
