Former X Factor winner Joe McElderry was crowned  winner of Popstar to Operastar 2011 on Sunday night. The 20-year-old was up against ex-Bucks Fizz singer Cheryl Baker in the grand final on ITV1.

Joe had been the strong favourite to win the second series of the reality show ahead of this evening’s performances which saw the final two sing alongside mentors Katherine Jenkins and Rolando Villazón.

Runner up Cheryl told host Myleene Klass after the result was announced: “I didn’t expect to get his far… I had my money on Joe from the beginning!”

She added: “I’ve loved it, every minute of it.”

Joe also sung the former Eurovision winner’s praises, saying: “I’ve had an absolute blast with Cheryl, I love her to bits.”
