The X Factor‘s spin-off magazine X will publish its final issue this week, it has been confirmed.
X was lunched in September as a weekly magazine to report on backstage news and interviews relating to the ITV talent show and to cover the wider music industry, fashion and showbiz gossip.
X had been intended as a year-round publication but poor sales and low subscription take up are believed to have prompted the decision to make this week’s issue the last.
A message posted on X’s official Twitter yesterday read: “The final issue of X Mag is out on Weds. Thanks to all who worked with us and to everyone who wrote/tweeted/emailed – it’s been brilliant. x”
Meanwhile, X‘s senior editor Peter Robinson wrote on the Popjustice forums: “Thanks to everyone who bought the magazine and in some cases enjoyed it enough to subscribe.”
A spokesperson for Fremantle and Syco said: “We can confirm X magazine will be closing after the final of The X Factor broadcast this month. We are reviewing its status ahead of next year’s series and looking at what options there are for the magazine moving forward.”
